k-12 mentoring services
I offer several different mentoring options for those students that are in kindergarten through 12th grade. You can contact me through my contact page with any questions.
Full Semester Mentoring:
I get it...English sucks and writing essays is the pits. Sometimes they make you write in other classes too! Sometimes essays for History class are longer than the ones for English! Not everyone likes to do it, but you have to if you want to get good grades. But it's not enough to just write an essay. You have to clearly communicate your ideas to persuade your readers (or just your teacher) to believe what you are saying. You have to show you know the basic rules of grammar and that you passed 4th grade spelling. And, most especially, you have to fill up that page limit! It's a lot to do, but if done correctly, you might even find that you enjoy writing! When you choose my full semester mentoring program, I'll help you improve your essays from their conception to their final state. That means that any essay for any class you have during any given term or semester (half of a school year) will have my hands on it. I'll edit it and suggest improvements. I'll help you develop your idea and write it clearly. I'll explain any grammar rules you don't understand and make sure you haven't made any spelling mistakes. My main goal is to help you learn something about writing and hopefully appreciate it in the process (or come to love it like I do). Essentially, I'm your English tutor for the semester, but for all of your classes, and I'm actually excited to help you! ...I know...I'm a grammar freak, okay?
Term/Final Paper Mentoring:
The term/final paper mentoring program is the same as the full semester mentoring program except I don't help you with all your papers. Instead, I only help you with your final (and, let's be honest, your most important) paper.
Video Conferencing:
For every essay, I will do one "in-person" discussion to help communicate more clearly and make sure everything makes sense. Additional conferences are available for purchase, if desired.
Single Essay Mentoring:
If you don't want the full semester mentoring package, I work on a per-essay basis, as well. You will get the full mentoring process described above, including a video conference, but it's just for one essay. You can pay for as many essays as you need or just one. It's like a punch card for essay mentoring.

theses, dissertations & collegiate essays
Structure and Clarity Edit:
This is where the big cuts, big additions, restructuring of chapters, and other difficult--but necessary--changes to your thesis/dissertation/essay is made. This edit deals with the way you communicate your ideas: sentence structure, fluidity, word choice, unnatural phrasing, catching continuity errors, and more. This is a big edit and leads to rewriting as often as it does to revision, so if you choose this service, expect your thesis/dissertation/essay to change...a LOT. However, since I am not the one about to graduate with a PhD in whatever subject it is that you are studying, my structure and clarity edits will not include fact checking or content editing. I will assume that your content is correct and that all facts are checked and properly cited. This also holds true for collegiate essays.
Copy Edit:
This service focuses on the mechanics of language: grammar, punctuation, spelling, and syntax. I adhere mainly to the guidelines set forth in the MLA, APA, and Chicago style guides, but can work with others if necessary. A copy edit will make sure that your thesis/dissertation/essay isn't full of grammar mistakes, punctuation errors, or spelling snafus.
Citation Check:
The citation check is simply to make sure that you have followed the rules in citing a work. I will check that your works cited page, in-text citations, and footnotes are formatted correctly. I will NOT check your source for accuracy. I will assume that you have done all the necessary research (because, once again, I am not the expert in the field).
